Refunds & cancellations

Cancel more than two hours out, get everything back.

That is the whole rule. Everything below is detail for the cases where it is not that simple.

Effective 18 August 2026

Cancelling

More than two hours before your appointment time: full refund of the visit fee, no questions and no fee for cancelling.

Within two hours of your appointment time, or if nobody is there when we arrive: the visit fee is not refunded. By that point the slot is committed and the notary is on the way or already travelling.

The $2 statutory notarial fee is only ever charged when a notarial act actually takes place, so a cancelled appointment never carries it.

Rescheduling

Moving an appointment is free, as often as you need, as long as you tell us more than two hours before your appointment time. Reply to the confirmation email we sent when you booked. A reschedule requested inside that two-hour period is treated as a late cancellation.

If we cancel

If we cancel, arrive so late that the appointment is no longer useful to you, or fail to show up, you get a full refund of the visit fee. If you would rather reschedule, we will do that instead and take $25 off the rebooked visit.

If the notarization cannot be completed

Sometimes the notary arrives and the act cannot be performed. What happens next depends on why.

Because of something on your side

No valid photo ID, the document was already signed, a signer is missing, the document has blanks left to fill in, or the address was wrong. The visit fee is not refunded, because the travel and the time were spent. The $2 statutory fee is not charged, because no notarial act took place. If you rebook within seven days we take $25 off the second visit.

Because the notary is required by law to decline

The notary cannot establish the signer's identity, the signer does not appear to understand what they are signing, or the signer appears to be under pressure. These refusals are duties of the office, not a choice. The $2 statutory fee is not charged. Half the visit fee is refunded, and if you resolve the underlying issue and rebook within thirty days, the other half is credited against that visit.

Because of something on our side

The notary arrives without a working seal or journal, or is not able to perform the act for any reason of our own making. Full refund of the visit fee.

How refunds are paid

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Stripe. We issue them within one business day of agreeing the refund. Your bank then takes its own time, usually five to ten business days, to show it on your statement. We cannot speed that part up.

We do not refund to a different card, to cash, or to anyone other than the person who paid.

Asking for a refund

Reply to your confirmation email, or write to bookings@evedens.com with the name on the booking and the appointment date. You do not need the Stripe receipt, though it helps.

If you think something has gone wrong, tell us before you call your bank. A chargeback takes months and we would almost always rather just refund you.

Statutory fees

The $2 per signature notarial fee is set by New York Executive Law § 136 and collected on site. It is charged only for acts actually performed, it is shown as its own line on your receipt, and it is never merged into the visit fee. Where this policy refunds a visit fee, the statutory fee is handled separately as described above.
